Why is the Tennis Bracelet called a "tennis bracelet"?

Every wondered by the tennis bracelet is called the “Tennis Bracelet”? Well, at the 1987 U.S. Open, tennis star Chris Evert was playing a match when she suddenly stopped and asked for a time out. The reason: The clasp on her diamond bracelet had broken and the bracelet had fallen off her wrist. She later referred to the bracelet as her “tennis bracelet,” and so the iconic name was born.

The bracelet that Chris Evert was wearing during the match was a bracelet set with a line of diamonds made by jewelry designer George Bedewi. Although traditionally featuring diamonds, this style of bracelet can also be set with any combination of diamonds and/or coloured gemstones. Here are some tips to avoid a mishap like that experienced by Chris Evert:-

  1. Add a safety catch on the bracelet for added protection, in addition to the clasp.

  2. Have your bracelet routinely checked by your jeweler to make sure the clasp, safety catch, and mountings are secure.
